Hydrogen Peroxide Safety

Hydrogen peroxide is used in water and wastewater treatment for disinfection, odor control and contaminant removal. It is a strong oxidizer.

Exposure can cause severe skin burns and eye damage, and inhalation can be harmful to the respiratory system.

The supplier should provide a current Safety Data Sheet, which must be reviewed thoroughly before working with this chemical. All recommendations for PPE and respiratory protection must be followed.

The NIOSH pocket guide to hydrogen peroxide and CDC Chemical Safety Card provide helpful information.

The information on Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health data for hydrogen peroxide is available also.

USP Technologies has a helpful webpage on Hydrogen Peroxide Safety and Handling Guidelines.
